The Conservative Party is a true political party for Conservatives.

The Conservative Party believes that the strength of our Republic depends on the power of the individual over government. Empowering the individual is the only solution to the problem of ever expanding government. Americans don’t choose to be ruled, but rather elect to be governed.

Governor Brown and certain California legislators are looking at a bill that will introduce questionable material to the state of California’s education system.

FAIR Education Act — California SB48 (2011)

Senate Author Mark Leno, Senate Coauthor Christine Kehoe

“This act …will REQUIRE public schools in California to provide instruction in the social sciences on the “contributions of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender people”.

The author of the state Senate bill, Senator Mark Leno, of San Francisco said, “Most textbooks don’t include any historical information about the LGBT movement…we aren’t teaching students about historical LGBT figures or the LGBT equal rights movement.”

Despite one’s own civil conscience as it relates to this subject matter, the very real possibility that this bill may pass requires Californians’ to be aware of a few certain and specific provisions.

  • If you are a teacher in the California education system you must give instruction in a way that does not reflect “adversely’’ on homosexuality, bisexuality or transgender.
  • The State Board of Education or any school board will be prohibited from adopting textbooks that reflect “adversely’’ on homosexuality, bisexuality or transgender. The textbooks will be required to include teachings about homosexual leaders and portray the ‘’gay rights’’ movement just as the civil rights movement in the 1960’s.
  • School Boards will be required to use certain and specific instructional materials that will include homosexuality, bisexuality or transgender. The instructional materials must ‘’accurately portray’’ them.

The real issue in this case, as in most, is that personal values are confusing the issues.  The matter in dispute is education and personal life style.

What someone believes in, what shapes their mind and habits will become a value to them and greatly influence not only their personal life but that same conviction will, by nature influence the personal lives of others.

Values have always driven public policy; in fact Ronald Reagan once said, “Private values must be at the heart of public policies.’’

Today, there is a myriad of values swirling around pressuring Americans, both young and old to accept a very ‘’permissive society.’’ This new society will change the very moral core of the American family and community alike.

This debate must be shifted from an ‘’educational issue’’ to “recognizable values.’’

Most Americans value hard work, responsibility, fairness, faith, self reliance, perseverance and accomplishment. Those values come from within, deep down inside each one of us, they are what we believe, particularly what we believe about God.

Californians must be a guardian of those traditional values.

This ever present challenge is all too important to ignore. Mothers and fathers must speak directly to their children and grandparents to their grandchildren about the character and values that made this the greatest nation in the world.

A nation that allows everyone to make their own personal choices and live according to their own values, but those personal choices and values should never be imposed upon others through unfair acts of legislation such as this.

The Conservative Party (California) is dismayed at the introduction of SB48 and strongly opposes it.
